"Covering"
Jan. 15th, 2006 07:27 pmAbout the need to "cover up" changeable features of one's appearance or personality, which are not protected by law. And about the impotence of law to make the change needed to protect them: there are just too many differences in need of protection.
"People confronted with demands to cover should feel emboldened to seek a reason for that demand, even if the law does not reach the actors making the demand or recognize the group burdened by it. These reason-forcing conversations should happen outside courtrooms--in public squares and prayer circles, in workplaces and on playgrounds. They should occur informally and intimately, in the everyday places where tolerance is made and unmade" (Kenji Yoshimo, The New York Times).
I'd like to know more about this "right to personality" clause in the German consitution.
