Here is an interesting discussion. My favorite comment (from a man) is: "Philosophy has almost reached the point where you're better off studying math as an undergraduate." Comments from Jessica Wilson, a Tufts alum, and others.

I have noticed a major difference between classes in which the main form of participation is "attack and counterattack" and those in which questions of clarification and exploration are encouraged. In the first, the goal is to kill something with linear arguments, in the second the goal is to gather ideas together and see things in new ways, to come up with new methods of solving problems. (I just made a hunting/gathering analogy. Yes, I am half disgusted for having made it.) Any subdiscipline of philosophy can be subjected to the hunt-and-kill treatment. And it's just as valid a method of understanding as the other.... So, I would rather make it an issue of thinking styles than of gender, but there are patterns. Conversations and arguments.
