Dec. 23rd, 2004 08:41 ami am almost done with my paper. probably the word 'normativity' will come out of it altogether: it's only in the introductory paragraphs now. it's useless because i mean it as a shorthand for "generalization" + "projection" + the primacy of our own points of view. since i'm interested in why all these things go together, i might as well talk about them in their own rights. i feel sort of cheesy about being so self-referential--writing a whole paper to show why one's knowledge of the way to use words in one's language cannot solve the meno paradox (since i once thought it could); but it seems fairly relevant, given that the whole book is about why criteria for using words do not solve things; in fact, i think it's more relevant (to the problems inherent in the--right--picture of language) than the skeptical problems discussed, since it directly concerns our knowledge of concepts. also i want to say that the possibility of skepticism is rooted in the problem of projecting words, but i'm not sure this is true.
